At Ascend Psychiatry & Wellness, we recognize that mental health is influenced by far more than brain chemistry alone. Our holistic approach to psychiatry treats the whole person—not just isolated symptoms. We address the interconnected factors that shape mental wellness: nutrition, sleep, stress, physical activity, social connection, and the immune system. By combining evidence-based medication management with attention to lifestyle and the underlying biological factors affecting mood, we help patients across Florida achieve sustainable mental health.

WHAT HOLISTIC PSYCHIATRY ADDRESSES

What Holistic Psychiatry Addresses

Mood and Anxiety Disorders

Depression, anxiety, and related conditions often improve dramatically when we address sleep disruption, nutritional deficiencies, chronic inflammation, and lifestyle factors alongside appropriate medication. Our holistic approach considers these factors as part of every treatment plan.

Sleep Disturbances

Sleep is foundational to mental health. Insomnia, fragmented sleep, and circadian rhythm disruption can both cause and worsen psychiatric symptoms. We assess sleep quality and address sleep hygiene, light exposure, schedule consistency, and sleep-related medication considerations.

Stress-Related Mental Health Issues

Chronic stress profoundly affects mental health and physical wellness. We help patients identify stress sources, develop coping strategies, and address the physical impacts of stress including elevated cortisol, inflammation, and immune dysfunction.

Mood-Allergy Connection

Allergies, inflammation, and immune dysregulation can significantly impact mood, energy, and cognitive function. Our integrated model with Dr. Farah Khan addresses this often-overlooked connection between immune health and mental wellness.

Lifestyle-Related Mental Health

Diet, exercise, substance use, and social connection all profoundly impact mental health. We discuss these factors openly and help patients make sustainable changes that support psychiatric recovery and ongoing wellness.

OUR HOLISTIC TREATMENT APPROACH

Our Holistic Treatment Approach

Comprehensive Whole-Person Evaluation

Our initial evaluation goes beyond symptoms. We assess sleep patterns, nutrition, exercise, substance use, stress levels, social connection, work-life balance, medical conditions, and family history. This complete picture helps us identify all the factors contributing to your mental health and design a personalized treatment approach.

Evidence-Based Medication Management

Medication remains a cornerstone of effective treatment for many psychiatric conditions. We prescribe and manage psychiatric medications with the same expertise as any psychiatric practice—but always within the context of your overall health and lifestyle, not as the only intervention.

Nutritional and Lifestyle Guidance

We discuss the impact of nutrition, hydration, caffeine, alcohol, and other dietary factors on mood and mental clarity. While we don’t replace dietitians or nutritionists, we provide evidence-based guidance on dietary patterns associated with better mental health outcomes.

Sleep Optimization

Sleep assessment and optimization is a core part of our practice. We address sleep hygiene, circadian rhythm, sleep environment, and when appropriate, sleep-related medications. Restoring healthy sleep often significantly improves mental health symptoms.

Mind-Body Integration

Our unique integration with allergy and immunology services through Dr. Farah Khan allows us to address the immune and inflammatory factors that affect mood. This integrated approach is especially valuable for patients who haven’t responded fully to traditional psychiatric treatment.

What to Expect

Holistic psychiatric care combines the same evidence-based medication management you’d find at any psychiatric practice with deeper attention to lifestyle factors and whole-person wellness. Initial appointments are 60 minutes—longer than typical psychiatric evaluations—to allow time for the comprehensive assessment. Follow-up appointments are 30 minutes and may include both medication monitoring and lifestyle coaching as needed.
