OUR APPROACH TO MEDICATION MANAGEMENT

Our Approach to Medication Management

Comprehensive Psychiatric Evaluation

Medication management begins with a thorough psychiatric assessment via telehealth. Our psychiatrists evaluate your current symptoms, previous treatments and medications, medical history, family history, other medications you take, lifestyle factors, and treatment goals. This evaluation allows us to develop a personalized medication plan tailored to your specific needs.

Personalized Medication Selection

Our psychiatrists use their expertise in psychopharmacology to select medications based on your specific diagnosis and symptoms, previous medication response, co-occurring medical conditions, potential drug interactions, side effect profiles, your lifestyle and preferences, and latest evidence-based guidelines. We discuss medication options with you, explaining how they work and what to expect.

Ongoing Monitoring and Adjustment

Psychiatric medication management requires ongoing monitoring to ensure effectiveness and safety. Our psychiatrists provide regular follow-up appointments to assess symptom improvement, monitor for side effects, adjust dosages as needed, order laboratory tests when required, and modify treatment plans as your needs change.

Managing Side Effects

Our psychiatrists work proactively to minimize side effects by selecting medications with favorable profiles, starting with appropriate doses, providing strategies to manage common side effects, and adjusting medications if side effects are problematic. We encourage open communication about any side effects.

Medication Safety and Interactions

Our psychiatrists carefully review all your medications, supplements, and over-the-counter products to identify potential interactions. We consider drug interactions, interactions with medical conditions, and interactions with food or alcohol. We coordinate with your primary care physician for proper monitoring of medications requiring blood tests.

What to Expect

Initial appointments are 60 minutes and include comprehensive evaluation, diagnosis confirmation, and treatment planning. Follow-up appointments are typically every 2-4 weeks initially during medication adjustments, then monthly or quarterly once stable. Most psychiatric medications take 2-6 weeks to reach full effectiveness depending on the medication and condition being treated.
